RB Leipzig: Manchester City stage late comeback to beat RB Leipzig 3-1 in Champions League | Football News

NEW DELHI: Manchester City, the reigning champions, showcased their resilience on Wednesday, staging a late comeback with two goals in the final minutes to secure a 3-1 victory against the host team RB Leipzig. This impressive win allowed Manchester City to regain their momentum after enduring consecutive domestic defeats and take control of Champions League Group G with a perfect record.
The thrilling match saw Julian Alvarez and Jeremy Doku emerging as the heroes for Manchester City, both finding the back of the net in the closing moments of the game. Alvarez displayed his exceptional skills by elegantly curling a shot from the edge of the penalty area into the top corner in the 84th minute. This stunning strike put City ahead, shifting the balance of the game in their favour.

Earlier in the first half, Manchester City’s Phil Foden had already made his mark with a bouncing shot in the 25th minute, providing his team with the initial lead. The precise passing game and ball possession orchestrated by City left RB Leipzig struggling to mount a counterattack in the opening half.

However, RB Leipzig demonstrated their resilience and levelled the score in the 48th minute with their first real chance of the game. Lois Openda seized a well-timed pass from Yussuf Poulsen and skillfully held off Manuel Akanji‘s challenge to slot the ball into the net, striking the post in the process.
Manchester City continued to intensify their efforts, with Foden nearly scoring from a beautifully curled free-kick that struck the crossbar in the 63rd minute.

The decisive moment came in the 84th minute when Argentina international Julian Alvarez unleashed a remarkable finish from the edge of the penalty area, re-establishing City’s lead. The final blow was delivered by Jeremy Doku during a swift counterattack in stoppage time, securing a well-deserved victory for Manchester City.
This crucial win propelled Manchester City to the top of Group G with a perfect six-point record from two games. It served as a remarkable rebound for the English champions after their recent setbacks, including a loss to Newcastle United in the EFL Cup and a defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the league.
