Favorite to win the event, rookie Sheuli lifted 313kg (143kg + 170kg) to win the gold medal at the NEC Hall on Sunday.
malaysia Erry Hidayat Mohammed, which gave Sheuli a tough competition, finished second best athlete in the event. He achieved a best effort of 303 kg (138 kg + 165 kg).

Sheuli, a silver medalist at the world junior championships, performed three clean lifts – 137kg, 140kg and 143kg – in the snatch section.
His effort of 143 kg helped him break the Games record and improve his personal best.
Heading into the clean and jerk with a five kilogram advantage, the Kolkata weightlifter started with a 166kg lift, which he hoisted with ease.

Sheuli then failed her 170kg attempt to lift the weight on the third attempt and set a new Games record in total lift (313kg).
The Indian weightlifter had to wait patiently towards the end to find out which medal he would win as the Malaysian attempted a 176kg lift on his last two attempts only to come up short.
With Sheuli’s gold, the Indian weightlifting contingent pocketed their sixth medal of the Games.
