Jay Shah confirms Team India won’t travel to Pakistan for Asia Cup 2023 | Cricket News

MUMBAI: Chairman of the Asian Cricket Council Jay Shah said Tuesday that Team India will not travel to Pakistan for the 2023 Asian Cup and the prestigious tournament will be held at a neutral venue.
Flagship tournaments are expected to be held in Pakistan as the Asian giants will host the next edition of the Asian Cup in 2023, followed by the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
There is no doubt that the cricket rivalry between India and Pakistan is perhaps one of the fiercest in the world.
The BCCI secretary on Tuesday completely dismissed speculation that the Indian team would travel to Pakistan for the event and said the Asian Cup would be held at a neutral venue.
“We will have the Asian Cup 2023 in a neutral venue. It is the government who decides whether the team is allowed to visit Pakistan, so we will not comment on that, but for the Asian Cup. Asia 2023, it has been decided that the tournament will be held at a neutral venue,” Jay Shah told reporters after the 91st Annual general meeting of the Cricket Board of Control in India (BCCI) took place in Mumbai on Tuesday.
“The location of the 2025 championship trophy has not yet been decided, we will comment on it when decided. We are making good revenue from our media rights. Our motive is that domestic players should get more benefits as may our incomes increase.” he added.
Only the Asian Cup continental tournament and ICC events bring the long-time rivals together. Since their last competition in a bilateral series, it had been more than ten years. India, former world champions, last visited Pakistan in 2008 to compete in the Asian Cup.
